We want to take a minute to say goodbye to July and tell you what you can look forward to in August!
Summer is typically a slower time for restaurants in the Valley as many residents head out on vacation to escape the heat. However, it turns out that business is still booming on the Upper West Side! Many local restauranteurs have told us that they are not seeing the typical Summer slowdown like in years past. Our area is experiencing rapid residential growth and as the population increases, commercial development will follow. If we were business owners we would be flocking to this area since it is currently booming (even in July) and there are an additional 7,000 homes being built!
Cooling off in the walk-in fridge!
Now a little recap of our July Pop Up Social events. Thank you to everyone that came out to support local restaurants and meet us! We really appreciate your support! We had a GREAT turnout at both Char Pizzeria on July 12th and The Haymaker on July 24th with about 70 people at each event. A HUGE thank you to Tommasina at CHAR, and Joey at The Haymaker, and all of their staff for taking great care of us!
While our event at CHAR had us dodging a monsoon and playing in the rain, it still managed to be fun for all! CHAR has a fabulous patio, both the covered part (we never realized it was fully covered on the side until this event) and the open part with foosball, bean bag toss, and other fun for the kiddos. With the garage style doors up at the indoor/outdoor bar, it was easy to grab a drink and mingle.
Initially we were going to limit our event at The Haymaker to 50 people so we didn’t completely disrupt their dinner hour but the owner was gracious enough to let us take over the main dining room and we did just that! We were so happy to introduce Joey to so many of you. He lives in the area so he knows our potential and he opened up The Haymaker years ago to serve our community before it was popular. He has been successful because he understands the community, makes changes to stay current (hello, avocado toast), and serves breakfast all day because who doesn’t want that?!? In addition to all of our Upper West Side guests, we talked to all the patrons that were there for a regular Tuesday night dinner in the bar or other seating area and told them about Upper West Side! It was a packed house on the hottest day of the year (we got to sneak in the walk-in cooler a few times to cool off) which goes to show that Upper West Siders will come out rain or shine to support local businesses and this grassroots movement! Community engagement is essential to supporting local and making this movement successful and we love you all for your support and participation!
We would like to thank the wonderful local businesses that donated prizes for us to giveaway at these two events. We were happy to have so many of the business owners present at the events so you could meet them. Please support the businesses that support the Upper West Side movement!

Also, we were lucky to have two of our community partners present at The Haymaker. Thank you to Susan Ramsey of The Ramsey Team at Keller Williams Realty and Lindsay Taylor of Sinful Blow Dry Bar for joining and supporting us! Without community partners like them, this movement would not be possible!
Please join us at our last two Pop Up Social Hour events in August! We will be at Razzleberriez on August 9th with a different format event and at our final HUGH end of Summer event at Bottega Pizzeria on August 22nd! We can’t wait to see you all! In the meantime, if you’re missing us you can head over to our store and buy Upper West Side merchandise to help support us and spread the word about this movement!
